2. Information collected

We may collect identity and contact details, delivery or collection details, order and payment-reference information, correspondence, return information, marketing preferences and standard website-security or server-log information.

3. Source of the information

Information is generally collected directly from you. It may also be supplied by a person placing an order for a recipient, generated during an order or payment process, supplied by a courier or payment provider, or recorded by the website-hosting service.

4. Purpose

The information is processed to answer enquiries; prepare, confirm, deliver and support orders; arrange collection; process payment confirmation, returns and refunds; keep legally required records; prevent fraud; protect systems; resolve disputes; and send consented or otherwise lawful marketing communications.

5. Whether providing information is mandatory

Providing general browsing information is voluntary. Certain information—such as a customer name, reachable contact number, delivery or collection details and payment confirmation—is necessary to conclude or perform an order. If required information is not provided, we may be unable to accept, deliver or support the order.

6. Legal authority and grounds

Processing may be based on consent, steps requested before a contract, performance of a contract, legal obligations, or legitimate interests recognised under POPIA. Records may also be retained where consumer, tax, accounting or other laws require this.

7. Recipients and service providers

Personal information may be disclosed where necessary to couriers, payment providers, website and IT providers, accountants, professional advisers, regulators, courts or law-enforcement bodies. Operators processing information for us are expected to follow appropriate confidentiality and security requirements.

8. Transfers outside South Africa

Some messaging, hosting, payment or technology providers may use infrastructure outside South Africa. Any cross-border transfer must have a lawful basis under POPIA, such as adequate protection, contractual safeguards, consent or another applicable ground.

9. Security safeguards

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of personal information, taking account of foreseeable risks and the nature of the information.

10. Your rights

  • Ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access where permitted.
  • Request correction, deletion or destruction where the legal requirements are met.
  • Object to processing in circumstances recognised by POPIA.
  • Withdraw consent where consent is the processing ground.
  • Complain to Dr Seloka Books or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

11. Avoid sending medical information

The bookstore is separate from clinical care. Do not include symptoms, diagnoses, test results, pregnancy information or other medical details in a book order or bookstore privacy request.
